18th Yılmaz Sazak Athletics Meeting was Run

On the 50th anniversary of Yüksel, athletics is entrusted to the third generation

Yılmaz Sazak International Athletics Meetings, organized in the name of Yılmaz Sazak, one of the founders of Yüksel İnşaat and expresident of Turkish Athletic Federation, was held in Istanbul on 1st of June, 2013.

The competition, one of the main corporate social responsibility projects of Yüksel, was accomplished in ENKA Sadi Gülçelik Sports Facility. The competition is one of the first three competitions of Europe for 12-17 age categories and the first carbon-neutral event of Europe. One of the characteristics of the competition making it important is that the event is documented with the photographs taken all along the competition and later on these photographs are exhibited.

This year’s event has another importance with re-gards to that it corresponds to the 50th anniversary of Yüksel and also a third generation representative is now organizing the competitions. Deniz Sazak, the Committee President of the Organization, declared in the last year’s competitions that she handed committee presidency to Törem Sazak, daughter of Derya Sazak and elder grandchild of Yılmaz Sazak. Törem Sazak, who has taken up the position this year, came through a great organization.

23 countries took place in the organization including Turkey. Many athletes between the ages of 12-17 from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Georgia, Greece, Greek Administration of Southern Cyprus, Croatia, England, Egypt, Hungary, Iraq, Kosovo, Macedonia, Moldova, Northern Cyprus Turkish Republic, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Serbia and Slovenia came to our country and competed in branches of 100 meters, 800 meters, 1500 meters running categories, 100 and 110 meters hurdles, the long jump, the high jump, the shot put, the javelin throw and the discus throw. Employees of Yüksel have also competed with each other in the framework of the run organized in the 50th anniversary.

The Deputy Manager of Youth and Sports Tamer Taşpınar, the President of Turkish Athletic Federation Mehmet Terzi, Secretary General Nihat Doker and the President of Armenian Athletic Federation Robert Emmiyan, the President of Northern Cyprus Athletic Federation Ersin Doğaç and Southern Cy-prus Chief of Delegation Petros Mantis took place among the audience.

Selahattin Yıldız, one of the doyens of Turkish athletics, was awarded with “Yılmaz Sazak Service to Athletics Award”. and, “Kenan Onuk Cup” was given to Tuğba Güvenç who came first in women’s 1 mile run with 4:47.67. Rising star Emel Dereli broke 3 Kilos Shot Put stars Turkish record thanks to her first shot of 19.59 meters. Another record was broken by Serdar Tamaç with 33.67 in 300 Meters Run. Batuhan Altıntaş, who came second in the same run, became the new holder of stars Turkish record.
